Quantity Surveyor

PPM Recruitment is working on behalf of a well-established and growing construction contractor that is looking to strengthen its commercial team with the appointment of a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor at its Reading office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven QS to work on a diverse portfolio of high-quality projects across the stadia, hospitality, commercial, retail, leisure and specialist residential sectors, with project values ranging up to £50 million.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial and contractual management of projects from pre-construction and procurement through to final account.

Working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors and operational teams, you will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and profitably while maintaining strong commercial and client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the commercial aspects of projects from tender through to final account.
  • Preparing cost plans, estimates, budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Reviewing tenders and supporting the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement and competitive tender processes.
  • Administering contracts, valuations, variations and payment applications.
  • Monitoring project costs, cash flow, margins and overall financial performance.
  • Identifying commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Preparing and agreeing variations and change orders.
  • Managing subcontract accounts and resolving commercial issues.
  • Leading and negotiating final accounts.
  • Working closely with project delivery teams to maximise commercial performance.
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records and reporting regularly to senior management.

About You

We are looking for either an experienced Quantity Surveyor ready to take the next step in their career or an established Senior Quantity Surveyor looking for a new challenge.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A degree, HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
  • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within the construction sector.
  • Strong commercial and contractual knowledge.
  • Experience managing projects from procurement through to final account.
  • Experience within one or more of the following sectors:
  • Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
  • A commercially focused and proactive approach.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider commercial and project team.
